CONFIRMED: The Burgess Hill Academy Is The New Name For Oakmeeds Community College

The historic name of 'Oakmeeds' is toast, with the news that the Brighton University Academies Trust have started to make the change to 'The Burgess Hill Academy'

The Trust announced on July 21st that they intended to change to name of the town's secondary school, with 'The Burgess Hill Academy' being their preferred option. Registration records now show they made up their minds very quickly indeed, for they secured the following domain names the very next day:

theburgesshillacademy.co.uk
theburgesshillacademy.com
theburgesshillacademy.net

The Oakmeeds website also has a notice on its front page with the following information:

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
STAFF AND STUDENT EMAIL ADDRESS CHANGES

Please note that as part of becoming The Burgess Hill Academy our email addresses will change from @oakmeeds.co.uk to @theburgesshillacademy.org.uk .

Users will need to sign in to their accounts using their username@theburgesshillacademy.org.uk and their existing password once the change has been made. These changes will take place between 15/08/2016 - 17/08/2016.

All email accounts will continue to function as before and no data will be lost. Any future mail sent to the old Oakmeeds addresses will still arrive as normal in the users email inbox.

REVEALED! The Names That Were Under Consideration:
Parents of pupils at Oakmeeds revealed the names that they'd been informed were up for consideration by the Academy Trust. They were:

Burgess Hill Academy
Mid Sussex Academy
Victoria Academy
Martlets Academy

Public Question The Name Change
Over on our Facebook page, (https://www.facebook.com/burgesshill/posts/1255578084475100) many members were asking why 'Oakmeeds Academy' wasn't even an option, saying it was the obvious choice and much more preferable to the generic 'Burgess Hill Academy' name that has been selected by the bigwigs from out of town.

Maybe the Brighton University Academies Trust will explain their reason come September?
