shell petrol station london road burgess hillShell Garage Seek Planning Permission For Forecourt Shop Renovation

30th June 2016
by Peter Chapman

Potentially exciting times for regular users of the Shell Petrol Station on London Road, for they have put in a planning application to renovate their existing forecourt shop.

The proposal will see the shop slightly extended on the right with the ATM machine relocated to the front of the building. It appears that the existing car wash is to be removed with the plan showing that the entrance and exit is to be sealed off.

The Design & Access Statement includes the following:

This application seeks permission for the installation of a new facade along the principal elevation of the building facing onto the forecourt, and beyond to Gloucester Road together with a small extension on the front east side of the building.

The existing façade and shop front are now somewhat dated and it is felt that a contemporary refresh would not only assist in meeting modern retailer requirements but will also increase the overall quality of both the internal and external environment at the site.

It is proposed to remove the sporadic accumulation of materials, colours and signs which will de-clutter the existing facade. In its place, the full height glazing frames will be painted grey. Facing brickwork will be replaced by synthetic wood providing a horizontal emphasis placed within a perimeter silver metallic surround.

This is the current Shell service station shop. The proposed transformation will be drastic!

Spread the word! The Shell Garage shop is getting an upgrade.
