MicroPub Set To Move Into Former Yorkshire Building Society Unit In Burgess Hill

5th October 2023 | By Peter Chapman

A MicroPub named 'The Signal Box' could be coming to Burgess Hill town centre if a change of use permission can be obtained for the former Yorkshire Building Society on Church Walk.

Licensing and planning applications have been submitted by BHMP LTD for 73 Church Walk, which require a change of use from Class E to Class A4/Sui generis.

According to the plans, the layout of the building will not see any significant changes. A cold room will be constructed at the back of the main area of the premises with a bar wrapping around it to the front. Customer toilets will be installed. The application also seeks permission to have seating outside the front of the bar on Church Walk.

The Signal Box proposes to sell Real Ale, Craft Beer and Cider produced in Sussex and neighbouring counties. There will also be a 'small but considered' selection of wines, whisky, rums and gin.

The micropub will not be selling mainstream draught lagers, shots or cocktails.

Traditional bar snacks will be available along with cheeseboards, racellette and charcuterie.

MicroPubs don't have any live entertainment, music or broadcast sports, the Signal Box are looking to offer a seated table service to discourage vertical drinking and to help create a 'relaxed and welcoming environment, particularly for women.'

The proposed start date for the premises licence is 4th November 2023 and the Signal Box have put out a recruitment post on Instagram for part-time bar staff and a full-time bar manager.
