Burgess Hill's New Outdoor Market To Launch This Saturday In Church Walk

7th September 2020 | By Peter Chapman

Burgess Hill Town Council are reintroducing an outdoor market to the town on a monthly basis, commencing on Saturday 12th September.

It will be located in Church Walk in the town centre and will run from 9am-2pm on the second Saturday of each month.

The market will host a selection of stalls, including fishmonger, free range eggs, handmade crafts, skincare & make up, cakes, 'free from' baker, and much more.

The last regular 'market' at the Martlets Shopping Centre closed in 2018

There had been a small market at the Martlets Shopping Centre outside Lidl and the Martlets Hall, but the management decided to axe it in early 2018. The town council at the time (run by the Conservatives) decided not to step in to keep it going in another location. The popular fruit and veg stall relocated to the Orchards in Haywards Heath!

When the council administration changed in May 2019, there was an appetitie to put things right and to reinstate a market. Green councillors Matthew Cornish and Anne Eves did the early research, then formed a steering group with Robert Eggleston and Joe Foster (Lib Dems) along with council officers to make it happen.

This Saturday will see the result of their hard work as the Market makes it debut. Please come along and see what it has to offer and to support the traders between 9am-2pm.

If you're interested in having a stall at the market please email market@burgesshill.gov.uk or phone the Town Council on 01444 247726 and ask for Liz

More details are available on the town council website's market page
