Burst Water Pipe Causes Chaos On Major Burgess Hill Road..

6th October 2019 | By Peter Chapman

There was extreme disruption along Leylands Road, Burgess Hill on Friday morning when a water pipe burst outside the Windmill Pub at the junction with Freeks Lane and Mill Road.

The road had to be closed by Sussex Police and a highways team before South East Water and the Fire Service arrived to assess the situation.

With a lack of east-west routes in Burgess Hill, drivers had to take detours along Maple Drive and Noel Ride to get across town.

The section of Leylands Road remained closed over the weekend, with work to repair the 6ft deep sinkhole not expected to be completed until Wednesday at the earliest.

Transportation across the town has been compounded with the closure of Junction Road at the railway crossing with Network Rail undertaking some weekend maintenance which is due to be completed at 5am on Monday.

Despite the clear 'Road Closed' signs, some drivers are choosing to mount the pavement at the troubled spot just so they can get to Lidl - too lazy to take the detour along Maple Drive if going from east to west!

We'll update you with the expected timetable for the repair works when we receive the information.

Should South East Water and WSCC Highways have prioritised the repair over the weekend?
