Video: Burgess Hill's Gas Holder Finally Comes Down

28th October 2017 | By Peter Chapman

It was an emotional time for fans of the Gasometer on Leylands Road in Burgess Hill on Wednesday afternoon, as the final major piece of the structure was pulled down - exactly 8 weeks after the process began.

We captured the moment on video...

The skyline has changed dramatically.

People Celebrate

Over on our Facebook Page, a number of residents living in the immediate area gave their reaction to the Gas Holder disappearing from the skyline:

Chuong Dinh "My house just went up by £10k and soon i will be able to walk to Lidl buy milk and bread"

Carolyn Sorbie "Me and my husband and another couple have just seen the last bit come down and cheered and clapped!"

Lisa Smith "Actually have light in my garden and sun for the very first time :-)"

Helen Carr "We can see for miles and miles and miles....."

There is still a lot of work to do at the site in order to get it ready to be handed over to the developers of the new Lidl store which is expected to be built by 2019.

Spread the word! The Gas Holder on Leyland Road is no more!
