mid sussex ice rink headerAgreement Reached For A Winter Outdoor Ice Rink At The Triangle Leisure Centre - Claims Community Leisure Organisation

9th June 2016
By Peter Chapman

How did this fly beneath our radar? It appears that an agreement had been reached to bring an outdoor ice rink to the Triangle Leisure Centre for three years.

Active House Solutions - a community sport and leisure organisation who most recently worked with Places for People Leisure on behalf of Mid Sussex Distirct Council to organise the Mid Sussex Marathon - created a 'crowdfunder' page, sharing in great detail their proposal which has obtained council backing.

Active House stated on their Crowdfunder page:

We have secured an agreement to provide a winter outdoor ice rink at the prestigious Triangle Leisure Centre in Burgess Hill for at least 3 years.

Supported by Mid Sussex District Council, Places for People Leisure and Blue Martini Group, this project is adopting a different approach to most winter rinks.

This community ice rink will provide ice time for hockey skaters, figure skaters, ice dancers and disability groups, plus offer sessions for parent & toddlers, 50+ and after school clubs.  We will also run a Learn to Skate programme giving local people an opportunity to develop their skating skills once the Christmas ice rinks have closed down.

As well as providing a social hub where local people can enjoy time with family and friends, we believe this ice rink will provide an ideal environment to get active, learn new skills and improve skating abilities.  In the long term we are aiming to demonstrate enough demand for a permanent ice rink to be considered in the area.

Open 7 days a week from 8am until 10pm, the project will also include a skate shop, cafe and seating area for spectators.  Skate hire and penguin skate aid hire will also be available.

We have secured enough capital to start this project so are now looking for pledges to provide additional funds for running costs and marketing resources.

Mid Sussex Ice Rink had created a Facebook page, Twitter account and a website, although their online presence gained very little attention.

There's not been any updates about the project since January 2016, in which they announced they'd be looking to open the rink in the winter of 2016/17.

So What's Happened?
Do we assume that the project is dead, 'put on ice' or still going ahead?

It would be very odd for this all to have been just pie in the sky when the group revealed that an agreement had been reached with both Mid Sussex District Council and Places for People Leisure.

We've made a request to Mid Sussex District Council for more information, they've yet to come back to us - which is unusual for them if there's nothing it in. We'll update this story when they respond.

Spread the word! A proposal has been agreed for an Ice Rink at the Triangle Leisure Centre! - We just don't know when, or IF it is coming.

What's your reaction to hearing that the council had reached an agreement with a leisure organisation to bring an outdoor ice rink to the Triangle Leisure Centre? Would this be a good facility to have?
