sussex police logo Man seriously ill after being attacked in Burgess Hill

30th June 2015

Police are appealing for witnesses after two men were assaulted in Mill Road, Burgess Hill.

At about 3.15am on Sunday (28 June) the men were attacked during an argument with two other men at the junction with Millers Way.

A 24-year-old man suffered minor facial injuries and was treated in hospital but released later.

A 20-year-old man suffered serious head injuries in the assault. He is currently in a life-threatening condition in hospital.

Detective Inspector Rachel Carr said:

"One of the victims is very seriously ill in hospital.

"We need to speak to anyone who was in or around Mill Road in the early hours of Sunday morning and saw or heard anything suspicious.

"At this stage we don't know why the attack happened or what had happened in the hours beforehand that might have prompted it.

"When we were called the attackers had left the scene, possibly in a van. We want to trace anyone who may have seen a van being driven along Mill Road at speed at about 3.15am.

"If you have any information at all please contact us."

A 22-year-old man from Brighton and a 22-year-old man from Burgess Hill have been arrested. Both are currently in custody being questioned on suspicion of assault.

Anyone with information should email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Operation Slough, call 101 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
