The Sussex Police press release reads as follows:

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was captured on CCTV spending a minute vandalising a car.

Shortly before 5am on 1 January the man began kicking and punching a blue Seat Ibiza parked in Church Road, Burgess Hill, until both wing mirrors had been smashed off.

The incident was recorded on a camera nearby but officers have so far been unable to identify the man involved.

He appears to be white, between 5' 8" and 6ft and had dark hair. He was wearing a black jacket and light coloured trousers.

PC Andy Mackay said: "We don't know who the man is or why he targeted this car in particular.

"If you know who or where he is please contact us. We would also like to speak to anyone who was in Church Road on 1 January and saw or heard any part of the vandalism."

Anyone with information should email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 1002 of 01/01, call 101 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
