University Of Brighton In Talks To Take Over Oakmeeds Community College
7th December 2014
Oakmeeds Community College could be set to join the University Of Brighton Academies Trust after talks began between the two educational establishments.
Last year, Oakmeeds delayed plans to convert to a stand-alone academy due to a lack of support from parents. Since that time, the school has been placed in 'Special Measures' by Ofsted and their run of disappointing exam results has continued.
It is thought that the Department for Education have ordered Oakmeeds to join an academy trust
as the solution to their recent troubles. It would make perfect sense as Oakmeeds have announced they WILL convert to an academy from September 2015 without any consultation with parents and the wider community.
Joining an academy trust is
also a big departure from Oakmeeds' intention to be a stand-alone academy whereby the college would have been solely responsible for making all the decisions in running the college.
Oakmeeds have released a statement via their website explaining more about the discussions with the University of Brighton. You can read it here
