Burgess Hill Town FC Knock Sutton United Out Of The F.A Cup
11th October 2014
By Peter Chapman
There was an F.A Cup giant-killing today as Burgess Hill Town Football Club knocked out Conference South side Sutton United with a 3-1 victory at The Borough Sports Ground.
With their opponents sitting two levels above them on the football pyramid it was going to be a very big task to get something out of the game, however, Burgess Hill were well and truely up for the challenge with a composed, organised performance.
Scott Kirkwood opened the scoring in the 5th minute for the Hillians and they went in at half-time leading. However, just three minutes into the second half, a Mickey Spillane shot deflected off Kirkwood and into the net to draw Sutton level.
Greg Leur put Burgess Hill back in the lead in the 75th minute with a free-kick, then incredibly, substitute Dan Perry added a third goal for the Hillians from short-range with two minutes remaining. The giant-killing was complete.
