2015 Mid Sussex Parliamentary Candidate -
Daisy Cooper, Liberal Democrats
Daisy commutes through Haywards Heath to London so understands the daily frustrations of rail (and rail replacement bus) users. At weekends, Daisy and her family can often be found playing in Victoria Park in Haywards Heath or in the Triangle pool in Burgess Hill.
Daisy works for Hacked Off, the campaign set up in the wake of the phone hacking scandal. In addition to widespread illegal phone and computer hacking and illegal payments to public officials, the organisation monitors ongoing discriminatory reporting and intrusion into people's privacy and grief. Daisy is proud to work for a campaign that fiercely defends free speech, but which also campaigns with the press to ensure that the industry's system of self-regulation is independent from both politicians and the press industry and is effective for readers with complaints, which often includes 'ordinary' people thrust into the limelight through personal tragedy.
Previously, Daisy worked in international development for ten years, including eight years in Commonwealth affairs advising Ministers and international Commissions as an international civil servant and as an outspoken Director of a human rights think-tank. Daisy is also a prominent member of the Liberal Democrats, having achieved second place as a candidate for Party President in 2014. She is now an elected member to the party's Diversity Engagement Group.
