Working here provides the perfect setting for my vintage themed salon! It is also wonderful to work alongside other interesting and inspiring individuals. Our plan is to bring something unique and innovative to the local community.

Lewes and Brighton are leading the way with creative and inspiring shops. Now it's time to bring a touch of quirkiness to Burgess hill. I'm hoping to provide an experience for my customers, not just a haircut!!"

What's the salon like?
It's definitely quirky and actually quite homely. There's lots of vintage furniture, beautiful mirrors, many handcrafted signs, oh, and a picture of a dog in curlers sitting under a hair dryer!

So who is Karen Hickman?
Karen is a very experienced hair stylist with an impressive C.V. She's worked on Fleet Street and The Strand where her client base included comedian Jenny Eclair. She’s done styling at big music festivals and worked on the Canberra cruise liner. Karen had taught hairdressing to students at Crawley College and has given up her time locally to style the hair of the performers in the Burgess Hill theatre club pantomime at the Martlets.



Karen keeps herself up-to-date with all the latest styles and is just as comfortable doing something modern as she is with vintage styling.

Services
Beyond the Fringe provides all the usual services that you would expect from a salon.

These include cutting, styling, blowdrying, hair-up and special event hair, colouring, highlights, gents and children.

In addition, Karen loves doing wedding hair and works alongside a very talented wedding dress designer.

"We can also arrange hen party workshops and children's birthday parties. We have a perfect space here at Miss Mabels for a complete party package, where sandwiches and cakes can be served up on beautiful china plates and vintage cups & saucers!"



The salon also supplies organic hair products by 'The Green People' which includes a range for children and babies.

Speaking of environmentally friendly, Karen uses biodegradable towels too, we never knew such things even existed!
