Burgess Hill Uncovered News Special: Snow, Snow, Glorious Snow!

24th January 2007

There was excitement in the Burgess Hill Uncovered offices this morning when the office cleaner broke the news to the staff at 5am that snow was falling down on Burgess Hill. Not since March 2005 had we experienced the white stuff in these parts!

At 11 o'clock that morning, one of our team braved the terrible arctic conditions to get some pictures of Burgess Hill looking like a half melted winter wonder land. Magical!

This picture is a timely reminder for why children should not eat yellow snow, as dogs like Milo have urinated on it!

The snow was surprisingly deep in places, this footprint sunk at least 3 inches into the cold fluffy substance.

This is the football pitch at the Fairfield recreation ground.
No visable lines would have led to a postponement.

The flowerbed at St Johns park looks lovely with a light dusting of snow.

The council had failed to act quickly, with no grit on this public footpath, old people could slip over and dislocate a hip.

The children's park was devoid of all infants, perhaps their mothers wanted to stay at home to watch Jeremy Kyle.

The view across the park from the opposite end.

The classic path people take to reach the town centre.

The St Johns Church gaveyard. Spooky.

This tree in the graveyard looked rather festive.

The classic egg in the stone garden didn't escape a covering.
No jaunt out in the wintry weather would be complete without marking the initials of Burgess Hill Uncovered in the snow.

After leaving St Johns Park, a trip to the shops was in order, it was shocking to see so many people wrapped up warm. Fair enough, gloves are acceptable, but woolly hats and scarves, these people make me sick. It wasn't even cold!

Sadly, on the way back to the offices at 12:30pm, the snow was melting rapidly.
School children's hopes of playing with the snow during their lunchtime had well and truly been crushed.

History suggests it'll be 2009 until the next noticeable snowfall in Burgess Hill, anyone for a ski trip to Europe?
